I N V I T E S
The organizing committee of the International Desert Film Festival invites the communities of both Sonora and Arizona to participate in its Sonora-Arizona short film contest, which is open to contributions from both border states and its topic is free. From the contributions received, there will be a selection to be presented in the festival in the competition segment.
The FICD X’s purpose is to promote the film activity in Sonora, developing a critical vision of audiences and filmmakers through proposals from Latin America exploring innovative narratives.
The 10th EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL DESERT FILM FESTIVAL will be held from November 24th to 27th, 2022, in the city of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.
The requirements of participation in the contest are listed below:
- REQUIREMENTS
- Submissions must be: Animation, documentary, fiction, experimental or hybrid short films.
- Materials must have been produced in Sonora or Arizona.
- Participants must not have participated in previous editions of the festival.
- The materials must have been produced during 2020, 2021 and 2022.
- The length of the short films must be of up to 30 minutes, with credits included.
- EXHIBITION
The Festival Coordination will agree on the order of participation and exhibition date of each short film. Therefore, with registration to the festival, those who participate authorize the coordination the use of their material, or part of it, for diffusion of future editions of the Festival, among others.
- CONDITIONS
a) Only filmmakers born in Sonora or Arizona may participate. Works will also be accepted from those who were not born in those states but have been residents for a period not shorter than three years.
b) There is no registration limit for the number of films per filmmaker or production. But it is necessary to fill out an entry form for each short film.

d) Video clips, commercial works or political propaganda will not be accepted.
e) Materials must be submitted in their original language to be accepted. If they have been filmed in a language other than Spanish, the materials must be subtitled in Spanish when submitted. This is mandatory.
f) Only short films submitted through the registration form will be accepted. Materials submitted through other platforms or channels won’t be taken into consideration for the festival.
g) The deadline for registration is October 31st, 2022.
h) A film cannot be removed once it has been submitted.
i) In no case shall the exhibition rights be paid.
- SELECTION AND JURY
The materials will be subject to a revision and selection process before choosing the films that will take part in the festival. The selection of these will be exclusively the responsibility of the Festival Coordination through a jury made up of film professionals, whose names will be announced at the time of posting of the results. All rulings are final and the committee reserves the right of giving any explanation about the jury’s final decision. - INQUIRIES
